Determination: having a strong feeling that you are going to do something and that you will not allow anyone or anything to stop you

As I watched ESPN 30 for 30 – The Guru of Go, I couldn’t help but notices Hank Gather’s determination, his will to thrive, and his undeniable passion for basketball.

Hank Gathers was diagnosed with an abnormal heartbeat (exercise-induced ventricular tachycardia) and was prescribed a beta blocker, Inderal. However, in Hank Gather’s eyes, his irregular heartbeat was just another reason for him to practice harder.

The amount of determination and passion and dedication for basketball seen in Hank Gathers is also seen in Kyle and Matty Wong. Kyle and Matty are special individuals. However, they aren’t special because of the height, strength, or athleticism. What makes Kyle and Matty wong is their will to improve, their strive to get better. Kyle and Matty wong are currently putting the 10,000 hour theory to test – the theory that any professional who has mastered their craft has done it for 10,000 hours.

*Here’s a link of the first episode of 10,000 hours in case you are interested in watching it! For all of you who play sports, watch this video! It’s incredibly inspirational 🙂
